Back when it was first announced that Netflix would be making Marvel shows, we knew that, like the films in the MCU, it would culminate in a big team-up story. The films got The Avengers and the ground-level superheroes got The Defenders. It was a fantastic idea, one that got off to a great start with Daredevil.
However, when The Defenders hit Netflix last year, it did so with an underwhelming thud. It didn’t necessarily fail, but it also didn’t do nearly well enough to justify a follow-up. However, some fans have held out hope that a sequel could eventually happen…but I think we may have yet another check in the “never gonna happen column.”
Netflix has just recently repurposed their The Defenders Facebook page. Now, instead of it advertising New York’s defenders, it’s advertising NX On Netflix. What is NX On Netflix? It looks like it’s the types of shows and films that encapsulate sci-fi and fantasy on the streaming services. Check out the trailer they put on the channel.
In the intro video for the new branding, we see original films like Death Note, Okja, and Bright, as well as non-original films like Captain America: Civil War and Thor Ragnarok. Also advertised are the Marvel Shows, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and Stranger Things. In an era where block TV is pretty much nonexistent on the, it looks like they’re trying to replicate that same feeling.
Do you think this pretty much confirms Defenders Season 2 won’t happen? Let us know down below!
