Focus Features has just released a brand new trailer for their upcoming black comedy film, Thoroughbreds. Check it out above!
This is a film that’s been on our radar since the trailer dropped a couple months back. Not only is it the final film for the late Anton Yelchin, but it also stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke. The three look like they have great chemistry in this pitch black comedy about a girl who decides to murder her stepfather.
As far as the trailer goes, I really enjoy the way it presents these two different girls: one who is endlessly empathetic, and one who’s kind of a sociopath. And yet they’re brought together to carry out this horrific act on someone who’s kind of a miserable human being. It all seems to be coming together in an enjoyable, unique film that could potentially garner something of a cult following in its run.
Below is the official synopsis for Thoroughbreds:
“Childhood friends Lily and Amanda reconnect in suburban Connecticut after years of growing apart. Lily has turned into a polished, upper-class teenager, with a fancy boarding school on her transcript and a coveted internship on her resume; Amanda has developed a sharp wit and her own particular attitude, but all in the process of becoming a social outcast. Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily’s contempt for her oppressive stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, they begin to bring out one another’s most destructive tendencies. Their ambitions lead them to hire a local hustler, Tim, and take matters into their own hands to set their lives straight.”
