And so it has begun.
When Daisy Ridley was cast as Rey in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, we all knew she was about to become a megastar. The same applied to Oscar Isaac and John Boyega. You can’t become the face of STAR WARS and then not become a household name in this day and age- when the brand is back at the top of the mountain, and beloved by all. Ridley is now the first of the STAR WARS newcomers to possibly cash in on her newfound fame.
Deadline is reporting that Ridley is now on the shortlist of actresses that have been contacted for the new TOMB RAIDER reboot. They caution that the talks are still very early, and no offer has been made yet. The film is expected to be an extension of the recent reboot of the video game series, which finds a young Lara Croft heading off onto her initial adventures. The fact that they’re looking at a fresh-faced 23-year-old like Ridley supports the idea that this won’t be the seasoned archaeologist that Angelina Jolie played in the two other movies based on the property.
The role is said to be a plum one for any actress that lands it, as there are high hopes for the film- which comes at a time when audiences are hungry for strong female protagonists. The new TOMB RAIDER will be a co-production brought to us through a joint venture between Warner Bros and MGM. The film’s been in gestation for a while, and is said to have received a creative boost when the studios saw how well-received the reboot of the game series was.
What do you think? Can you see Ridley as Croft? Discuss!
