Trade Covers By Tula Lotay Give Us A Great Look At DC’s The Birds Of Prey

All of the talk right now may be about the Clown Prince of Crime’s origin film that is ready to hit theaters at the beginning of October. But his former sidekick/girlfriend is ready to make her second appearance in the DCEU in Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn in February, 2020 from Warner Bros. Pictures. This of course means that the marketing for the film wills start to hit a higher gear in the upcoming months.

With that said DC released their December 2019 solicitations for their titles that will be released that month. On that list are three new paperbacks that are going to specifically focus on the three main characters of the Birds of Prey film including Harley Quinn, Black Canary and Huntress. These are not new stories but collections of past comic book runs. Each of the covers for the trades will feature the characters as they will be featured in the film. These are illustrated by artist Tula Lotay and give us a great look at each of the characters that will be played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Margot Robbie and Huntress. Joelle Jones also has a cover featuring the the ladies of Birds of Prey, but it focuses on Harley Quinn, since it is for the Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey trade paperback.

Black Canary’s trade paperback features Brenden Fletcher’s run in back in 2015 titled, Black Canary Vol. 1: Kicking and Screaming, which shows Dinah Drake as a rock star as well as a vigilante. Huntress’ trade features a run by Greg Rucka back in 2000 n which she is framed for murder and features the Question. Last but certainly not least is Harley Quinn’s trade that features the beginning of the fan favorite run by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti that arguably was a key piece to help her character ascend to the star that she is today. Check out the images and solicitations below!

It is interesting that they would pick these specific stories for to get fans ready for the film. It would seem that we are getting a rocker Black Canary and a misunderstood Huntress. The covers by Lotay are very brightly colored and match what we have seen so far very well. Personally the only thing I dislike is Harley Quinn’s yellow overalls.
