Trailer: It Follows Director’s New Film Channels Paper Towns

A couple years ago, writer/director David Robert Mitchell burst onto the scene with the horror film It Follows. The story followed a woman who was under attack from some supernatural force after having sex. While many horror fans disliked it for its overall slow pacing, it was something of a critical darling that helped put Mitchell on the map.

But several years prior to that movie, Mitchell was more in the comedy-drama arena, working on the film The Myth of the American Sleepover, which was more of a coming of age story. I bring that up because the trailer has just dropped for the filmmaker’s next movie, and it seems to have a lot more in common with that other film than with It Follows.

The upcoming film, Under the Silver Lake, stars Andrew Garfield and tells the story of a man who becomes infatuated with his neighbor. The two share a romantic evening together, and while Garfield’s character seemed optimistic about things to come, he pops into her apartment, only to realize she’d moved out.

However, in her apartment, he finds clues that he thinks were meant for him, and will eventually lead him to here, wherever she may be. If this sounds familiar, it’s because it was almost the same exact premise as Paper Towns, a coming of age story starring Cara Delevingne. However, with Mitchell at the helm, it’s possible this could be a stronger take on the premise.

You can be the judge. What do you think of that first trailer? Sound off down below!
