If you’ve ever gone hiking out in the wilderness, a good rule of thumb is never to leave the beaten path. I’d be lying if I said I’d followed that rule to the letter, but after seeing this trailer, I may think twice about veering off-course in Sequoia the next time I go.

Netflix has just dropped a trailer for another one of their 80 films that they’ll be dropping this year. This film is called The Ritual, and it looks to be a terrifying horror film that I think could have even found an audience in theaters. Check out the trailer above.

Below is the synopsis for The Ritual:

“Reuniting after the tragic death of their best mate, four old friends from university set out to hike through the Scandinavian wilderness. But a wrong turn leads them into the dark and mysterious forests of Norse legend, where an ancient evil still exists and stalks them at every turn. The Netflix film will premiere on February 9, 2018.”

This is a solid-looking film. The performances look pretty great, and the whole idea, while pretty cliché, looks well-executed. I especially like that the real struggle here looks to be the in-fighting between these four friends as they grow more and more deranged.

The Ritual hits Netflix on February 9, 2018.
