Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is one of those shows that could have been a silly throwaway series. Don’t get me wrong. There are few series that are as silly as Kimmy Schmidt is, but while practically every episode manages to be even more ridiculous than the last, it still manages to be a surprisingly deep show.

On the heels of the first season, Season 2 could have very well been a rehash of the first — a season that didn’t actually deal with the fact that Kimmy was legit kidnapped as a teenager and held against her will for years. Instead, the show actually made that an integral issue for her character. This was something that you couldn’t just brush under the table in the name of a show being a comedy. Like the first season, it took a horrific incident and addressed it head-on.

The same was done with Titus and his boyfriend, and their budding relationship. While the jokes were there, the writers actually made a point to continually develop their characters, which is always great to see in a show like this.

Now, for those who have been patiently awaiting ourfirst look at Season 3, look no further than another one of Titus’ music videos:

Not quite sure if this manages to live up to the brilliance of his other hit, “Pinot Noir,” but it’s a great first step in the right direction!

With this new trailer, we also got an official release date: May 19th. This goes along with the trend of each season coming out about 13 months after the previous season. Season one hit Netflix in March 2015, and Season 2 hit Netflix on April 2016. If nothing else, you can’t call them inconsistent. It is interesting to see how Netflix’s model has changed the way TV is produced. No longer can we rely on a Fall-Spring season of TV. Nowadays, they can likely be more closely compared to yearly movies.

Whatever is easiest for the producers works for us, so long as they keep pumping out the goods!

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 3 hits Netflix on May 19, 2017!
