Uncharted Adaptation Director Gives Project Update

Hollywood still hasn’t managed to crack the nut that is the video game adaptation. Despite them giving it the good ol’ college try in recent years with films like Assassin’s Creed, Tomb Raider, and Rampage, they still haven’t quite been able to really make one resonate with gamers, let alone mainstream audiences.

One other adaptation that’s on the horizon, however, is Uncharted. Based on the incredibly cinematic video game series of the same name, Uncharted could, in theory, make its own impact, especially with Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland set to play the lead. But it’s been a while since we’ve heard much, so is this movie actually happening? Speaking with The Playlist, the film’s director Shawn Levy gave us an update:

“I mean, as of right now, the closest to the starting line is Uncharted in that it’s a massive title. We now have a very good script and we have our star in Tom Holland. That is now subject to schedule and additional casting. But I would say as of right now, that seems to be the most near horizon. And it’s a movie I’m very excited about.”

Unfortunately, Levy neglected to give us any real dates to go on, and considering how preoccupied he is with the likes of Stranger Things 3, there’s no real guarantee that he’ll actually be able to get to it any time soon, as it’s likely quite the all-encompassing endeavor.

But, at the end of the day, it is yet another video game adaptation in development, and while I have given up hope of them ever rising to greatness in the same way as comic book movies, I’d like to think Hollywood has at least one fantastic film in the bank for the genre.
