Uncle Owen, Aunt Beru? They Could Be Set To Appear In The Obi Wan Disney+ Show Teases Joel Edgerton

We know that Disney are pushing ahead with a Disney+ limited series focused on the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi, again played by Ewan McGregor. We know almost nothing else at this point (even a title), but it makes sense that this show would be set during the period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, when Obi-Wan was keeping a close eye on Luke Skywalker, raised by his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru.

For a time it has been suggested that Joel Edgerton may return in the show as Owen Lars, a character he played only briefly in both Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Edgerton has been coy on this when asked previously, but during his appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast recently, Edgerton was perhaps a little more forthcoming.

Here is what Edgerton said when asked about reprising his role as Owen Lars.

“There is a very real possibility. There’s potentially an assassin on a rooftop just outside the window if I say the wrong thing. I’d love to say all sorts of things. I’m just not going to.”

I mean, it’s not any kind of confirmation, but at the same time, it sounds like something that’s definitely been suggested to him already. It’s maybe just not a done deal, and as such he cannot say too much. It still feels like early days with this Disney+ show and as such, I am sure there would be a way to make this show without the involvement of Edgerton if they cannot agree a deal for him to appear.

When Edgerton first appeared as Owen Lars he was almost an unknown actor, but since then he has gone from strength to strength and proved himself as an accomplished and sought after actor after appearing in films such as The Gift, It Comes at Night, and Bright.

If I had to choose, I would say that I would dearly like to see Edgerton appear as Owen in this show. I always felt like the character was underutilized in the prequel trilogy and they should have developed more of a story between him and Anakin in Attack of the Clones, but that’s another story altogether.
