Universal Closing BIG Deal With Nintendo For Legend Of Zelda Movie | Barside Buzz

According to the latest Barside Buzz, Universal are closing a BIG deal with Nintendo for for the adaptation rights to a Legend of Zelda movie. Following on from Super Mario, I imagine we could be looking at Legend of Zelda movies more than the idea of TV series. The buzz comes from industry insider Jeff Sneider on this week’s edition of The Hot Mic podcast.

Feel free to check out the video, this story is the first one up, so it’s not like you have to go find a specific time stamp. However, it’s 03:58 Sneider brings up the rumor he’s heard if you want to go straight to it.

Honestly, there is not much else to share. Sneider says that following the success of Super Mario, Nintendo now knows it’s worth. Therefore Universal have have to pay a pretty penny to get the Zelda rights and he says that’s exactly what is happening.

Details of how this may work are surely much farther down the line. Therefore, we can’t speak to that beyond speculation. To be fair though, the idea of this has been broached many times. We here at LRM and GenreVerse have discussed it before. I do recall my The Cantina co-host Kyle Malone and former LRM Editor in Chief and now co-host of BGTR Joseph ‘Jammer’ Media discussing it on an old video. Both are far bigger Zelda enthusiasts than I am.

If I recall, the debate came down to whether Link should speak, given that he never has in the games? Perhaps they discussed whether it should be animated or not, and what version of the story should be used? I don’t recall all the details. However, you can find a more recent BGTR discussion in the related section above.

That was a discussion related to an old rumor about a Legend of Zelda live-action TV series. It’s far more likely here that Universal will make an animated movie in the same vein as Super Mario. I’d also expect this movie to be squarely at that young audience who lapped up Super Mario.

I guess we will find out more in time?

What do you think of the Barside Buzz that Universal are closing a BIG deal with Nintendo for for the adaptation rights to Legend of Zelda? Thoughts below as always.
