Universal Studios’ Donkey Kong Expansion Officially Announced! It’s Groundbreaking Technologically Advanced Roller-Coaster May “Jump” Rails… SIGN ME UP!

You could say that I am a bit of a thrill seeker. You could also say I am a bit of a video game geek with four Final Fantasy tattoos and a planned fifth one. BEHOLD… Crappy pictures taken in a hotel on my way to a Military school to have them documented… for a policy that was rescinded. Take that Chandler… you know who you are!

Okay, no more Army-insider venom. Let’s talk about why I gave you my credentials up front, Universal Studios officially announced its Super Nintendo World Expansion for Japan as being Donkey Kong themed, and more specifically Donkey Kong Country. It includes interactive areas, shows, food, shops, and beautiful immersive theming. Check out the concept art provided by Universal Studios Parks And Nintendo.

That Roller-Coaster Though…

Now, that all looks fun. However, I am a thrill seeker and both rides at the current Mushroom Kingdom seem tame. I had hopes for the Mario Kart experience but video from Japan’s currently operating land has tempered my expectations for Orlando, FL. The good news is our favorite Gorilla and family are set to bring us a roller-coaster that may appear to “jump” tracks, much like the mine carts do in the classic NES game, Donkey Kong Country.

These US patent drawings show us something not new, cars extending away from the track, but these ones are designed to create illusions of cars running on (or off) normal “safe” tracks. While this is set to be a family friendly Mine Cart Train style coaster, this element alone creates a reason for enthusiasts to ride.

What Else Is Cool About Donkey Kong And The Roller-Coaster?

With everything from Universal Studios, we can expect a deep level of immersion, at a premium of course. There will be powerband interactive areas, animatronics, gifts, and themed food. The coaster is said to have indoor and outdoor portions leaving room for cool character interactions through screens or animatronics.

What About Orlando or Hollywood?

Well, the Nintendo King of the Apes is opening WITH Super Nintendo World in Orlando. It is rumored for a 2024/2025 time frame. However, I wouldn’t be surprised with a Winter 2026 soft open and hard open Spring of that year. Also, we’re getting versions of all the known rides at or being constructed at the Japan park. It’s pretty damn exciting if you ask me. Super Mario World is a place where I will go unwind and do some low impact stuff with my family. I am okay with low thrill areas, but unlike Disney, when I am rested I need to hit another land and ride something like the Hulk Coaster or Velocicoaster! Now that will be a great day at the park.

What are your thoughts on the Donkey Kong expansion for universal studios? Also, are you excited for the technologically advanced “Boom Coaster?” Lastly, are you excited to visit the Nintendo World in the United States? Let us know in the comments below!
