Scheduled for a June 2019 release, Universal Studios is working on a film adaptation of Image Comics’ graphic novel Cowboy Ninja Viking by AJ Lieberman and artwork by Riley Rossmo. The film will star Chris Pratt as an assassin who is trained in the skills of cowboys, ninjas, and Vikings.

Thanks to TheWrap we have reports that Universal Studios has signed Michelle MacLaren to direct Cowboy Ninja Viking. Recently she has worked directing and producing such television hits like Game of Thrones, Westworld, and The Walking Dead. This will be her second feature film that she is attached to direct. Her first feature film will debut in January of 2019 and if will be TriStar’s The Nightingale based on the Kristin Hannah novel.

Along with Pratt, the film will be produced by Entertainment 360, the production arm of Management 360, Mark Gordon and Michael De Luca. On behalf of Universal Studios, Vice President of Production Sara Scott will oversee the production of the film.

Image Comics’ Cowboy Ninja Viking was first released on October 21st, 2009. The story starts with Dr. Sebastian Ghislain who has Multiple Personality Disorder who has three personalities a psychotherapist, covert operative and a DJ. He created a counterintelligence unit where he used other Multiple Personality Disorder patients to make up his team calling them “Triplets” due to each of their three personalities. The unit failed but someone is still using them as highly effective assassins. Due to this the Triplet known as Cowboy Ninja Viking is commissioned to finding and stopping these killers.

This looks like an interesting project for Pratt to star as it will require multiple personalities on screen. Also a good challenge for McLaren who has had plenty of success on television, we’ll see how that translate’s to a feature film. What do you think of this film? Universal Studio’s Cowboy Ninja Viking is set to hit theaters June 28, 2018.
