Ursula Corbero To Join Paramounts’ G.I. Joe Spin-Off Film ‘Snake Eyes’

Paramounts’ Snake Eyes, the third live action film based on the Hasbro G.I. Joe toy line is currently in pre-production with a scheduled release date of October 16th, 2020. The film will focus on the origins of the fan favorite character known for his black commando uniform, ninja training and masked face. It will star Henry Golding, the breakout star from Crazy Rich Asians to play the title role along with the star of Warrior, Andrew Koji to play Storm Shadow.

Joining the these two on the film according to TheWrap will be Ursula Corbero who has signed on to play the Baroness. She is best known for her role as Silene Olivera aka Tokyo in the Spanish heist drama La Casa de Papel, which in English is featured as Money Heist which you should check out on Netflix. It currently has three seasons with a fourth season on the way. She is represented by WME and Garay Talent.

In G.I. Joe the Baroness is a villain that is associated with Joe’s nemesis, Cobra. She serves as his intelligence officer and lieutenant to Cobra Commander. She first appeared in Marvel Comics’ G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero in June of 1982. She made her debut as an action figure in the 1984 series. She had previously been played by actress Sienna Miller in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra back in 2009.

Snake Eyes is being directed by Robert Schwentke with a screenplay written by Evan Spiliotopoulos. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner are producing with Jeff Waxman executive producing. The story follows Snake Eyes’ origins at a time when he is trying to become a member of the Arashikage Clan, which is ninja clan based in Japan. This clan is know for using deception to earn their keep as ninjas and have a reputation for the ability to perform impossible tasks according to the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra: The Essential Guide.

Corbero has been fantastic on Money Heist and if you can watch it in Spanish, I highly recommend it. I think she is a great choice for a villainous role and I look forward to seeing her in this film. What do you think of the casting choice for Baroness? Let us know in the comment section below!
