Vanessa Roth is the director of the new documentary, Mary J. Blige My Life. The recording took place during Mary J. Blige 2019 Royalty Tour. At the same time the “The Queen of Hip Hop Soul” was celebrating the 25th anniversary of her second album My Life.

In the process, she celebrates the 25th anniversary of her most influential work by performing the album live for the first time. 

The Oscar-Winning director Vanessa Roth has been involved in documentary filmmaking for over 25 year. Roth has worked with Netflix, Disney, ESPN, PBS, A&E NBC, National Geographics, President Obama’s Inaugural Events among many other known networks. Her work can be seen in Netflix’s Daughter of Destiny, Liberation Heroes: The Last Eyewitness and earlier this year National Geographic Presents: Impact with Gal Gadot.

I was connected with the filmmaker Vanessa Roth via Zoom to discuss the making of the Mary J. Blige My Life. She shared her experience in getting to be a part of this project with big name producers like Mary J. Blige, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Tara Long, Mark Ford, Kevin Lopez, Jeffrey Harleston and Jody Gerson.
