Venom: Let There be Carnage delayed till January 21st, the date Morbius is supposed to release! That’s the latest rumor from Vulture who say that the Venom sequel is ready to be delayed again, after just being delayed recently. As with all rumors, until there is an official announcement from Sony, anything can happen. However, many of the trades have been predicting that Sony would delay Venom: Let There be Carnage further.
According to the outlet, whilst it’s not yet official, that’s what is happening and that means a delay for Morbius as well.
According to multiple inside sources, that’s because Sony is planning to delay the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage until January 21, 2022 — the date currently occupied by the Jared Leto vampire-superhero thriller Morbius — but the studio is waiting to make the announcement until after CinemaCon, the annual extravaganza at which movie-theater-chain executives and owners come to be dazzled by sneak peeks at Hollywood’s impending blockbusters. “They didn’t want to flash to exhibitors that they’re scared of the early fall,” one person with knowledge of Venom’s release scheme tells me. “Why would you move it three weeks? Buys you nothing.” (Sony declined to comment for this story.)

Even when we reported the last delay, in the related section above, there was a hint it night slip again. As Vulture says in their coverage, what does a three week delay give you? Nothing is the answer if you want to make sure fans feel safe to hit theatres. I think Sony know that the MCU crowd are not all coming in force for this one. However, they also know they can make a profit off this movie. They just have to get the timing right.
Sony, unlike many competitors does not have a streaming service to gain subscriptions from. The money these movies make at the box office is all they get. I think that’s why we see Sony being far more wary than some other studios. You see whether Shang-Chi does well for Disney will tell the studios a lot. However, it won’t answer the question for Sony, because again, an MCU movie is an event, a Venom sequel is not.
It’s starting to look like Venom: Let There be Carnage delayed till January 21st. What do you think of this news? Sound off below.
