Yeah, I know. this isn’t exactly huge news. Venom has currently made over $850 million worldwide off its $100 million budget. That’s substantially better than Deadpool 2, which made less than that on a slightly higher budget — and that means that it’s a guaranteed cash cow for the foreseeable future.

But still, you never know in Hollywood, so it’s always good to get some confirmation on the situation whenever possible, right? So that’s why we’re here. Recently, one of the writers for Venom sat down with Discussing Film, and of course, the question of a sequel was promptly brought up. Here’s what Pinkner had to say:

“I can’t say anything other than that it is happening.”

So there you have it. Venom 2 is happening. When last we checked, Sony had two dates in the future set for Marvel properties, with October 2, 2020 being the likely contender for Venom 2, considering it gives them around a year or less to get the film through development and preproduction.

Given the foundation they set with certain characters in the film, there are plenty of directions the story could go, but personally, I can’t help but wonder if Sony will try and grab Spidey from the MCU for a brief cameo. Perhaps it’ll be something they take to the negotiation table after Spider-Man: Far From Home hits? We’ll have to wait and see.
