Vin Diesel Praises First Cut Of xXx: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE, But Says It’s Too Short

There are two actors in Hollywood right now that double as non-stop marketing machines, and both are associated with the FAST & FURIOUS franchise. The first is Dwayne Johnson: his Instagram feed is the stuff fans dream of, and the other, of course, is Vin Diesel, who seems to live for practically every form of social media. Perhaps, more than any actor, however, he often takes to his Facebook page to drop the biggest pieces of news, and last Friday was very much in keeping with that trend.

xXx: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE is a flick that’s been rumored to come back for some time. After the first film was a hit, Diesel left both of his big budget franchises in an effort to try and expand his roles and skill set. Vin Diesel has since returned to the FAST & FURIOUS franchise and his at least partially responsible for its amazing turnaround in the past four films, and he’s now finally returned to xXx.

So far, the film has been shot, a trailer released, and now, according to Diesel, we have a cut of the flick.

Naturally, Diesel praised the film, as any actor would. Without a doubt, the man has a lot of passion behind every project he does:

“[Paramount] is so poised to do something so amazing with xXx. I was speechless after watching the movie. I felt like it’s been a long time coming. The spirit of individuality that plays in the movie is kind of refreshing and kind of timely.”

While he did enjoy the cut, it was not without its problems — namely, it wasn’t long enough:

“I don’t want to say anything negative, but I have to be honest. If there was one complaint I had about xXx the first cut, it’s too short. I wanted more… When people have been waiting 15 years for this franchise to return, you can’t just give them an hour and a half. It’s not fair because you just want more.”

While his perspective is understandable, perhaps an hour and a half cut is what moviegoers need. Nothing against Diesel or xXx, but it’s not exactly a film a huge number of fans were desperate for. Perhaps with a short, lean cut like that, they can work to please mainstream filmgoers and increase chances for a sequel. And if this cut is as good as he says, it’s probably best to leave fans wanting more so that a sequel doesn’t feel superfluous. As the saying goes, sometimes less is more.

What do you think? We obviously don’t have the film in front of us so we can’t speak to its quality, but does Diesel have a point? Is the first cut of xXx too short? Let us know your thoughts down below!

xXx: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE hits theaters on January 7, 2017.
