INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE director Roland Emmerich has said that he’s baked some high-minded optimism into his blockbuster sequel. In interviews talking up the film, which comes 20 years after the first INDEPENDENCE DAY was a global smash, Emmerich has said he wants to depict an alternate world where humanity bands together, having realized what we’re capable of when we all work as one. In that sense, he says the events of the first film are treated like “The War of 1996,” where the people of earth fought alongside one another to defend their world from intergalactic invaders.

In this new bit of viral marketing, we get a glimpse into this alternate reality:

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE will star Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Bill Pullman, Jessie Usher, and Vivica A. Fox. The film is slated for a June 24 release.
