According to some new Barside Buzz, Vision Quest is rumored to be great and as such showrunner Terry Matalas now tipped for Nova and more. The information today comes from Jeff Sneider on the latest edition of The Hot Mic. The information starts around the 50 minute mark during the streamlabs section.
Sneider reveals that he’s heard from sources at Marvel that Vision Quest is a great series, and it seems Marvel are very happy with it. So happy, Sneider has heard Matalas could be in the running to showrun the Nova series. Additionally, he may be set to pen an overall deal with the studio to produce more TV/Streaming content.
Vision Quest is currently in post-production, though we are still getting little casting details. The other day it was announced by trades that Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica) had a small, but mysterious role in the series. However, the main lead of the show is Paul Bettany and he’s accompanied by various humanoid versions of former AI we’ve met, including James Spader as Ultron. As yet, we still don’t have a release date for Vision Quest, but you can bank on sometimes in 2026.

As for Nova, the series has long been in development at Marvel Studios. However, it was only recently trades reported Marvel had shelved the show for now. Idea being that Marvel were reducing budgets and one off series. Trying to focus more on traditional TV seasons, like Daredevil: Born Again. Perhaps therefore, Nova is being retooled by Matalas into a multi-seasonal story?
If Matalas does sign a deal with Marvel then he’d have the scope to map out several seasons. Perhaps, with a lower budget than initial plans called for?
It’s difficult to understand where Disney is going when it comes to streaming for both their Marvel and Lucasfilm Studios. The current drive is producing movies, and reducing streaming output. Yet we have the upcoming Ahsoka Season 2 at Lucasfilm and both Vision Quest and Born Again Season 2 coming from Marvel. That’s just live-action though, the animated series for both studios seems to be carrying on as before.
