Voice Actor From The Witcher Video Games Gives His Support To Henry Cavill As The New Geralt

One of the most surprising stories to come out in the last week for me was the announcement that Henry Cavill had nabbed the lead role of Geralt in The Witcher, the upcoming Netflix show based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski.

As Jammer said in his article (check the related section below), I was a little bit displeased with this piece of casting. For me there were so many better possibilities than Cavill for Geralt. I feel that Cavill is too clean-cut looking, too buff and perhaps even too young for the role. That being said, I have seen some cool fan artwork depicting Cavill as Geralt and I have my fingers crossed that I am proved very much wrong on this.

Geralt has never seriously been played in Live Action before, sure there was that movie in 2001, The Hexer, but if you have seen it, don’t let it fool you into thinking this has anything to do with the source novels. However, from a voice perspective, actor Doug Cockle has been playing Geralt for years in the critically lauded and popular video game series from CD Projekt Red. If you have not played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt yet, then I cannot recommend this game highly enough, one of my all-time favorite video game experiences.

Now Cockle has taken to Twitter to throw his support behind Cavill landing the role after many fans like me were slightly bemused by the casting.

As said above I sincerely hope I am wrong and Cavill is excellent as Geralt, because I so want this series to succeed as it is a great story set in a fantastic universe. My concern is that the showrunners have gone for Cavill because they could get him, rather than because he was perfect for the role. Henry Cavill is a huge star and having him attached is already generating a ton of great promotional exposure for the show, I guess the cynic in me sees dollar signs instead of craft with this decision.

What do you think of Cavill’s casting, are you excited for The Witcher when it finally arrives on screen? Bravely delve into the chat dungeons below to conjure up some answers.
