Some Star Wars related Barside Buzz to share that Taika Waititi’s movie is on indefinite hold and the Rey Sequel is delayed. The information from both stories comes from Daniel RPK on Patreon. I will say that I find RPK’s hit rate better on Marvel than Star Wars. However… it’s still good and I can totally see both of these scenarios.
According to the scooper Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie is on indefinite hold. Which pretty much means no one knows if this will ever actually get made. I’m actually not surprised by this, though not for the reasons many fans share my lack of surprise. The fan sentiment is that Thor: Love and Thunder was bad and it cost Waititi his shot at Star Wars. I think it’s less dramatic than that. We know Waititi simply never finished a script that we know of. Unless he finished a script and it was rejected I’m guessing indefinite hold means, ‘we aint doing anything till we get a script we like’.
Realistically Lucasfilm should never have announced a movie which currently only existed as a pitch in Waititi’s head. Time will tell, but I’ve had a feeling for a while this one will never happen.

The second rumor from Daniel is that there is a delay in the plans for the upcoming Rey Sequel starring Daisy Ridley and directed by Sharmeen Obaid -Chinoy. Last we heard anything semi-officially about that film was that the script had passed to Stephen Knight to take a shot at. Far as we know, that script was never handed in and assessed. Or if it was, there were issues or changes required. The original plan we heard from a variety of sources was that they hoped to start filming later this year. That’s clearly not happening.
Daniel says that there are some delays internally which are pushing production out. My guess, very simply is that the script still isn’t ready.
In other words folks, don’t expect to see this one until 2027.
