The Flash has always had a bit of a speedster problem. For the past season and a half, it seemed like everyone and their mom was a speedster. Barry was a speedster, Wally was a speedster, Jesse Quick was a speedster, the villain of the season was a speedster.
Pretty soon, it got to be too much for the show, not just on a story level, but on a budgetary one. As a result, both Wally and Jesse’s roles have been reduced substantially, with Jesse returning to her Earth and Wally going off on a self-discovery journey. But does that mean he’ll pretty much be gone from the show until the plot needs him?

Perhaps, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be sitting in a hammock in Hawaii while he’s off The Flash. While at a DC event last weekend, Legends of Tomorrow actor Brandon Routh all but revealed that Kid Flash will be joining the time-traveling series “for a little bit.”
“I think that goes with the talent that [Wally West actor Keiynan Lonsdale] brings to his role and to this newly forming — is it forming? — energy of him coming in to be a part of our show.”
Having Wally West join for a bit would be pretty great for the show, and along with the likes of Constantine and Citizen Cold, he’ll be a great addition to a particular arc. There he’ll get some of the development he wasn’t afforded in The Flash before hopping back into that series when needed.
