WandaVision Takes Us Down Memory Lane | Reaction Non Spoilers

It is finally here! The first two episodes of WandaVision have launched on Disney+.  This also kicks off the beginning of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a new concept of integrating shows on Disney+ with movies released in theaters.  After watching the first two episodes it is easy to understand that something is amiss in the neighborhood.  When the concept of WandaVision was first announced it was described as a homage to sitcom television highlighting the best of what made the shows perfect.  The premiere episodes of WandaVision takes us back to the 1950’s and 60’s where shows like The Dick Van Dyke ShowThe Donna Reed Show, and I Love Lucy dominated prime time television.  For me I was born after this era of television but I was able to live it through Nick At Nite as a young boy.  The show that always captured my attention was Bewitched and I couldn’t help but notice all the similarities WandaVision pulled from that show.  The core element of all those shows was getting a reaction from the studio audience especially with its comedic bits.  Having a real live audience during filming gave an authentic look and feel to the show.  This is definitely a step in the right direction for the next phase of the MCU and breaks away from the formula that had been used in the previous phases.

Overall this is a fitting show to transition into the next phase of the Marvel Universe.  It has a sense of normalcy with the characters of Wanda and Vision being the leads of the show.  They are the two characters who had the least screen time in the last Avengers movie so there is still more to discover about them.  They are some of the most powerful characters in the Marvel universe so it will be interesting to see who will be the main villain of this series.  Someone or something strong enough to have Wanda and Vision locked in this make believe world.  The relationship that Paul Bethany and Elizabeth Olsen have together really sells the concept of living in suburbia America with a white picket fence home.  The added elements of mystery makes you try to pick up every detail of the show to see if there is anything out of place.  Overall this is a very well structured show that keeps you hooked to what will happen next.  My only issue is that I would have preferred this series to be released all at one time so that I could binge watch.  This would allow me to keep track of every detail as the story progressed.  In all it is a very tiny issue because I will be able to binge watch it one all the episodes have been released.
