The rebooted Planet of The Apes franchise has certainly been a success across the board. Rise of The Planet of The Apes was a hit for Fox when it came out in 2011. The sequel, Dawn of The Planet of The Apes, was an even bigger hit in 2014. Both films were certified fresh (and then some) by critics on Rotten Tomatoes, too. Now the next film in the series has nabbed Woody Harrelson for a key role.
The actor, who’s had a career resurgence in recent years thanks to projects like Zombieland, The Hunger Games, and HBO’s True Detective is said to have been cast as a villain in War of The Planet of The Apes. While plot details for the next film remain scarce, we know his character is going to be called the Colonel (which totally makes me think of The Walking Dead, by the way). He’ll be the primary human antagonist in the post-apocalyptic saga, as the earth continues to be overrun by genetically-modified apes.
The team behind Rise of The Planet of The Apes will be back for War, with Matt Reeves in the director’s chair and Mark Bomback on scripting duties.
