Warner Bros. Close To DC Animation Deal With Amazon

Warner Bros. are close to agreeing a DC animation deal with Amazon

Warner Bros. are close to agreeing a DC animation deal with Amazon according to TV group boss Channing Dungey. Dungey, speaking at U.K. TV conference Content London, revealed Warner Bros. TV was closing a deal with Amazon for animated DC content. Transcripts via Variety.

“One of the interesting things that’s exciting for me at this moment, the approach of the previous management was much more like ‘Everything has to stay in house, we don’t want anything to go outside,’” Dungey said. “David Zaslav has been much more open to our exploring all of our animated IP and being able to do it on different platforms. Certainly HBO Max is going to be our first stop but we’re already in the process of closing a big deal with Amazon that’s going to feature some of our DC-branded content in animation.”

It was only last month that WB/D laid off a massive workforce across various divisions, one being animation. At the time the company said it was looking to outsource animation and it now looks like Amazon is first up. This is a rather strange strategy I find when WB/D already has HBO Max, why put DC content on Amazon? We also should remember that co-head of DC James Gunn recently indicated a joined up approach between movies, TV, animation and video games in the new DCU. I’m interested to see what the big plan is when it comes to DC because for now I can’t see it.

I guess we will just have to wait and see what DC licensed content finds itself in Amazon’s hands?

What do you think of the news that Warner Bros. are close to agreeing a DC animation deal with Amazon? As always, any thoughts below.
