Warner Bros. Discovery Will Follow A Ten Year Plan For DC Films

DC Films

After a lot of confusion and panic from DC fans, today we have some clarity on what Warner Bros. Discovery is going to do with DC Films. It all started with the shelving of Batgirl a few days ago. In which a Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson said that the decision “reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max”. From then it was a matter of waiting until today’s second quarter earning call with Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav for more information.

Zaslav said that they have done a “reset” with DC. That they will follow a ten-year plan for DC films, similar to what Disney and Kevin Feige have done for Marvel.

“We have done a reset. We’ve restructured the business where we’re going to focus, where there will be a team with a ten-year plan focusing just on DC,” Zaslav said. “It’s very similar to the structure that Alan Horn and Bob Iger put together very effectively with Kevin Feige at Disney.”

He continued to talk about the expectations for DC films, which is to focus on quality over qunitity.

“We’re not going to release any film before it’s ready. We’re not going to release a film to make a quarter, we’re not going to release a film — the focus is going to be ‘how do we make each of these films, in general, as good as possible?’”

Interestingly enough, he mentioned current films already in the works like Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash. Apparently, they are very excited about them and feel that they can “make them even better”. Also that they would focus on marquee characters like, wait for it, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

Now the wait begins as to when we will see any form of this plan that Warner Bros. Discovery has for DC Films. One film we know is going to happen besides the few that have been mentioned is the Joker Sequel, which had its release date announced yesterday.
