As anime auteur Makoto Shinkai (finally) proved with the film Your Name, he has a talent to weave in the common with the uncommon. Standard fiction into fantasy and sci-fi. Intimate love stories with greater implications. It looks as though he is continuing that trend with his latest offering, Weathering With You, which follows a boy who meets a girl that can inexplicably clear up the skies.

That seems to be the context of this clip. For one reason or another, the main character, Hodaka is trying to get our “weathering” girl to clear up the skies, and will even try and turn the tide using a traditional Japanese weather charm.

While the clip is pretty short, the minute or so we spend with the characters is enough for me to get a feel for the fun and warm tone the movie promises, as well as some of the magical spectacle.
