Robert Pattinson isn’t the first name that came to mind when it came to getting a Batman. Before he was revealed to be Bruce Wayne, the main name that popped up was Armie Hammer, a popular choice among fans, thanks to his large size and overall playboy look. That being said, as time has passed, I think many fans have come to realize that, at least from an acting perspective, Pattinson is a solid choice.
But it does still seem like an odd one…especially for him. Considering Pattinson’s tendency to do small indie movies, what made him decide to turn to the cowl?
“There was something that always appealed to me about it. Batman movies have always attracted really, really good directors, and really good actors and it’s got a legacy and lineage to it.” Pattinson told EW. “It’s never been something that seemed like just a cash-in.”
Pattinson does have a point. With the exception of maybe the Joel Schumacher era, it wasn’t really something that just went to your average Joe Schmoe with a camera. It usually came with a real auteur vision attached. In fact, Pattinson thinks its prestige even extends to the old TV show.
“People still watch the TV series. That is a classic TV show. And it’s very, very, very well done.” Pattinson said. “The performances are great. It’s a very interesting, kind of pop arty TV show.”
