This is a discussion article, posing the question, what if Michael Keaton gets the Luke treatment in The Flash? Now, what I mean here is, what would the fan reaction be like if instead of a triumphant return as Batman, Keaton comes back as a broken man? Parallels to Luke Skywalker’s return in The Last Jedi come to mind, and how fans reacted to that. Personally, in The Last Jedi, I never had an issues with broken Luke, I had an issue with what broke him.
We have known for some time that Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/ Batman in The Flash and rumors are that Keaton will go on to appear in many more DCEU movies being developed. Yet how will fans react if we see a broken shell of what used to be the Batman? You may wonder why I am posing this question, actually it’s a funny story.
We here at LRM often get sent leaks, but it is just some random dude claiming his uncle’s work colleague is the love child of Kevin Feige or something or other. We actually had one come in this week for The Flash. The person claimed to have knowledge of some plot details about the movie. There was no way we would ever release this as an exclusive Barside Buzz, as there is no way we could verify the information. If this person had been an employee of WB for example, we could have asked for some proof. However, not this time and as such we are not going to tank our reputation without being 100% sure or getting a second confirmed source to back the information up.

However, when my colleague’s and I read this supposed leak our discussion turned. Suddenly we were all discussing what if Michael Keaton gets the Luke treatment in The Flash? I’ll post what was said, just so you know why this e-mail was the catalyst for the discussion.
“Keaton’s Batman is a shadow of his former self. A drunk butter loser, who lost the plot. My source said it was heartbreaking to his favorite Batman reduced to this. All the other Batman’s arrive this week. Including Batfleck. I said “all”? Do you mean Bale as well and he said definitely not. Not sure what “all” means. Also, Wonder Woman is coming in the next few weeks too.”
As said, don’t read too much into this as a rumor. I mean anything is possible, however the vast majority of unsolicited leaks outlets are sent are just fans having a laugh. If you are the one who sent us this, I mean no offence if it’s genuine. However no one would believe us, quite rightly, without some evidence.

I think this is an interesting point to discuss though. Would it matter the same if Batman was broken compared to Luke? Batman has always been a man with severe mental health issues. Whereas, Star Wars fans saw Luke as the ultimate Jedi. I just wonder if fans would have the same bad reaction to showing a broken Wayne as they did with broken Luke? I don’t have answer, a conclusion to this discussion, as that will always be subjective. Time for you guys to give your opinion. How would you react if Michael Keaton is given the Luke treatment in The Flash?
