What If The World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes Review – Best One Yet

What If The World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes

What if the world lost its mightiest heroes? That is the question posed by today’s latest episode of What If? There could be several titles for this episode actually. One would be What if Marvel Phase One had been directed by Zack Snyder? The other one I thought of would be a bit of a spoiler and that’s probably why it was never chosen. I’ll cover it after the spoiler jump below. However if you want to know what I thoughts of Episode 3 spoiler free here it is.

In my opinion, this was the most enjoyable episode yet. Where the first episode had an old timey feel, the second was crazy like a fox. This third episode is darker than the previous two, and the last one has Thanos making genocide jokes. My taste, definitely leans towards dark for this type of show. Sure I love my heroic triumphs like anyone, but some darkness before we get there is cool. I guess that’s why I said it felt like Zack Snyder directed Phase 1 of the MCU. I’m no huge Snyder fan, but in this context, of a what if scenario, then it works. A darker tone and an interesting and well acted episode that promises a sequel in Season 2.

Now for a bit more details after the SPOILER jump.

What If The World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes SPOILERS Below!

If you’ve come this far, so either saw this episode or don’t care. The other title we could have given this story was, what if Hank Pym murdered the Avengers. I must admit, I had began to work out what was going on just before Natasha mentioned Hope, but only just. However, old Nick was a bit slow to catch on, I guess he got their in the end, and made his nice alliance with Loki. All’s well that ends well I guess Nick? Oh, what’s that Loki took over Earth in one day, but hey, at least he got Pym killed as well. That’s assuming Loki didn’t let him live to steal the technology off him?

I love how that despite the dark in this episode Nick Fury didn’t really make any mistakes, apart from not catching on quicker. And then at the end, his plan causes things to be ten times worse. Though, I’m not sure those non Thor Asgardians could actually overrun Earth’s military forces in one day, but it worked for the episode itself.

I’m also pretty sure that when they do a sequel to this in Season 2 with the Cap’s fighting back, that those Asgardians are gonna get their ass whupped. The change of tone was fun, and so far, I’m having fun watching What If? Season 1.
