Let’s take a look at what Star Wars news we got at D23 including footage of The Mandalorian and Grogu. I covered last week what I thought we would get at D23, and I did make one glaring omission. I had completely forgotten about Andor Season 2. Outside of that I predicted we would not get much. Outside of the Skeleton Crew trailer we already knew was coming anyway. Oh and sorry this is late, my weekend got busy fast.
In actual fact we got a little more than I had anticipated, but not a lot. First, let’s start with the only Star Wars footage we are allowed to share from this weekend. The official trailer for Skeleton Crew coming December 3rd to Disney+. Regulars already know I don’t fancy this one. Nothing in this trailer is making me change my mind, so far. Shockey already covered this on it’s own on the site earlier.
Look, it’s the Goonies in the Star Wars universe. Even the little jingle at the start of the trailer screams Amblin movie. The question remains whether this kind of movie works in the Star Wars Universe? Until I see the show I cannot answer that question.
Some thoughts: I don’t like the suburbia setting in Star Wars. I also don’t think much of the pirates from Mando S3. Therefore, seeing more of them worries me. The droid that has no foot (wooden leg imagery) just feel ludicrous to me. It’s a droid, get it’s foot fixed. Or, if you really wanna make Star Wars pirates, have its extra leg be a blaster it uses when threatened. Character with an eyepatch is fine, but make it look futuristic, not like an actual pirate patch. Lastly, I don’t think Jude Law’s character is actually a Jedi, but using some trick to make them think he is.
I’ll judge it as a find it when it hits screens. But yeah, not excited for this one.

What else did we get? Well, the crowds in attendance got to see a BTS/sizzle reel for Andor Season 2. That footage was not officially released. Still, I’ve seen it, and so can anyone else with a modicum of skill using the internet and social media. Every single piece of footage from D23, whether released or not, has been posted online already.
As a result I won’t describe the footage here, as you’re better just viewing it yourself. I just can’t post any links to it. The same goes with the surprise piece of footage from D23, a teaser for The Mandalorian and Grogu. Big notes to take away are, Mando and Grogu seems to be fighting against the Empire (Thrawn’s forces?). Grogu is still using his two legged walker to get around. The Razorcrest is back, or it’s a new one, somehow. We get AT-AT walkers in the film also. I don’t think there’s much more to glean from the footage shown yet.
No new announcements, which is exactly what we expected. Celebration next year will be the place for anything big to be announced.
What do you think of the Star Wars news we got at D23? Have you checked out the footage of The Mandalorian and Grogu online yet? Thoughts below as always.
