Wicked: For Good is a story about consequences, courage, and the tangled legacy of friendship reshaped by war. Picking up where Wicked: Part One left off, the sequel follows Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) as their paths split for good. One flees as a fugitive, the other steps reluctantly into the public eye. Oz is changing fast. Political tensions rise. Loyalties fracture. And as new threats emerge, both women must face what their choices have cost them. The world of Oz careens into an uncertain future, and both Elphaba and Glinda have an important part yet to play.
What works in Wicked: For Good are the fantastic performances, the visual splendor, and the sheer sensory delight of its world. Erivo and Grande anchor the film with commanding presence and emotional clarity. Erivo brings steel and vulnerability to Elphaba’s journey. Grande’s Glinda grows in complexity and heartbreak. Their chemistry remains magnetic. Beyond the leads, the movie fires on all cylinders creatively. The production design is lush and intricate. The cinematography captures sweeping battles and intimate character beats with equal care. Costumes, hair, and makeup elevate the fantasy without losing sight of character. And the sound design fills the theater with energy. Revel in the roar of spellcasting to the swell of orchestral arrangements. Overall, it’s a worthy follow-up to the first film, packed with action and crafted to be experienced on the biggest screen possible.

Audiences who loved the breezy, toe-tapping energy of Part One may not enjoy Wicked: For Good as much as others. Act II of the stage show has always been heavier, more somber, and less inclined toward show-stopping spectacle. The movie honors that trajectory. Returning director Jon M. Chu trims scenes, sharpens pacing, and builds new action set pieces that take full advantage of the medium. But the tone is undeniably darker. Some viewers may find minor deviations from the musical sacrilegious. Others may simply wish for catchier songs or more levity. The shift is intentional, but it may not satisfy everyone.
Wicked: For Good is a powerful and visually stunning conclusion to this two-part saga. It’s dramatic, heartfelt, and rich with thematic weight. While it may not have the easy rewatchability of Part One, it stands as a great film in its own right. It rewards attention and deserves to be seen on the largest screen you can find. Highly recommended.
