What Zemo And Carter Have Been Up To Ahead Of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier

Just what has Zemo and Carter been up to since the last time we saw them in Captain America: Civil War? That was the most recent appearance for both Zemo and Carter, nothing has been seen of either since. I guess we fans imagine that Zemo has been in prison somewhere, but Carter we would have assumed would not still be on the run. I got the impression that after the Blip all was forgiven for the events of Civil War. We do see both Steve and Natasha living normal (somewhat) lives after the five-year gap.

Perhaps though, we should expect some surprises on what we should expect? CBM recently spoke with head writer Malcolm Spellman. Spellman gave gave a hint to what Zemo and Carter have been up to since we last saw them. Though I’m sure Spellman is being as vague as he can be here.

Zemo

“It’s a blast. First of all, all of these characters get special treatment in this series because there’s space to do it and so, Daniel Brühl just starts to play. When he showed up to do these scenes, he just plays with them like it’s like a concert pianist to see how the different angles and the different levels of humor and psychology he could bring to him.”

“Baron Zemo himself is basically, he sees himself as a hero, which is the most dangerous kind of villain. What we wanted to do with all of the villains in this thing was give them legitimate arguments for why they’re doing what they’re doing, so much so that even the other heroes start to, at times, agree with them. So, Daniel Brühl is dealing with the fact that his country and his family were destroyed by people like this and that the world’s in chaos and it takes someone like him to help set it right.”

Carter

“Sharon is a blast because once you dig into, ‘Wait a minute, when’s the last time we saw her, when she was in Civil War, what happened?’ and we got to write an entire backstory that the audience won’t even see, but bring it to life once you meet her and realize what all she must’ve been through. Even though she has the baby face and looks innocent, she’s got a lot more edge now.”

The idea of Zemo being humorous intrigues me greatly. I think Zemo’s the character I am most intrigued to see. I still don’t know whether Zemo is going to be working with the Flag Smasher antagonists or against them. No preference, I just like how the character is complex enough to go either way at this point.

As for Carter, I was never a huge fan, but then the character has been used sparingly thus far. She’s gotta be pissed that Cap went back in time to marry her Aunt though, right? I do think this show could give Carter a genuine place in the MCU beyond a minor cameo appearance. It’s hard to say I’m excited to see that because I don’t like or dislike the character yet. Time will tell.

Are you excited to start The Falcon and The Winter Soldier tomorrow? What are your hopes for Zemo and Carter in this show? As always, leave your thoughts below if you can.
