Just how many years before Star Wars: A New Hope does Solo: A Star Wars Story take place? That’s been a question fans have been wondering ever since it was announced that there would be a standalone Han Solo film. If we look at the age of Harrison Ford when he first popped up in A New Hope, that’s around 34, and we compare it to the 28-year-old Alden Ehrenreich, we see around a six-year gap.
But can we actually expect it only to be a six-year gap between those two films, or is it more? Del Rey Books recently released a timeline, and in it, we see Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s upcoming novelization placed between the books Last Shot and Thrawn.
With this in mind, the folks over at Moviefone have inferred that the upcoming film takes place between 11 and 14 years before Star Wars: A New Hope. Assuming Han Solo was around 34 in that first film, that means the Han we’re dealing with in the upcoming film ranges from 19-23. This would make Luke Skywalker seven to eight years old.
I’m personally in favor of this change. One of my biggest quibbles with the film was that there seemed to be too much change in Solo and the Falcon for so little time between it and A New Hope, but if 11-14 years is what we’re dealing with, it’s all a bit more realistic. Now the real question is if Alden Ehrenreich can convincingly play a 19-23-year-old.
