When Will See A Price Drop With The PS5?

The PS5 has officially launched here in the United States and so far user experiences have been great for those who were lucky to grab one.  Since the initial pre-order launch customers have voiced their displeasure with not being able to get one because of consoles selling out so fast.  Another group has expressed that the price point is too high and they won’t be able to afford a PS5 right now.  It is definitely understandable when parents are trying to get by right now during the pandemic but trying to make their kids happy for the holidays.  This was the first Playstation console that I didn’t get a launch because I didn’t want to compete with the fight online or in-store to get one.

For those of you like me who won’t have a Playstation this year there is hope that we will be able to within the next couple months. The good news is if money is tight, you might not have to wait very long for the situation to change, according to a report by e-commerce aggregator iPrice Group.

Using data, iPrice Group predicts that by May 2021 or 6 months after the official release, you will be able to get the PlayStation 5 Digital version for S$564 or the Standard version for S$686.

According to their report it seems that you can save up to $35 if you wait until May 2021 and around $100 if you wait one year to purchase a PS5. The iPrice Group came to this conclusion from looking back to the Playstation 4 Pro release and charted when they had price drops.  A collection of over 150 only shopping websites that all showed a significant price drop around these timeline points.

It’s not hard to notice that these price drops relate to when seasonal discounts are used most often.  The positive with this news is that the price drop will happen rather quickly after the new year and there will be more variety of games available. In case you want to wait for the official price drop from Sony, that might take a lot longer. The first official price drop for the PlayStation 4 happened two years after its initial launch, and price was slashed by 15%.

So be on the lookout after the new year.
