According to The Wrap, X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer is taking two different routes while casting younger versions of Jean Grey and Scott Summers in the new film. In the case of Jean Grey, the director has reportedly met with some rather high profile young actresses, while he’s spoken to somewhat fresher faces for Cyclops.
The Wrap’s report states that Singer has chatted with the likes of Elle Fanning, Oscar-nominated True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld, and Kickass! star Chloe Grace Moretz in recent weeks. It’s unclear how any of those conversations went, but it gives an indication for the kind of actress Singer is settings his sights on.
When it comes to Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, the candidates are a little more muted. The biggest name on the list is Timothée Chalamet, who just appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. He’s joined on the shortlist by Ben Hardy and Charlie Rowe.
The two roles are considered to be pivotal, as this continued relaunch ofthe X-Men films shifts focus to newer facets of X-Men lore. The romance between Jean Grey and Scott Summers has often been central to the X-Men mythos in the books.
Who ever is cast will be replacing Famke Janssen and James Marsden, who embodied the grown-up forms of the characters throughout the other X-movies so far.
