Suicide Squad was one hundred percent my least liked movie of the DCEU so far, and in all honesty I could count maybe 2-3 films in that franchise I actually liked. Without a doubt though, Suicide Squad is a movie I will never watch for a second time, I struggled to make it to the end of the first movie.
We know that Suicide Squad is essentially being rebooted under the guidance of James Gunn following his dismissal by Marvel for historical bad taste social media posts. Whether any of the original cast would be back is something we were unsure of, especially with Margot Robbie getting her own set of Harley Quinn centric movies soon. Well, now we can say for certain that The Suicide Squad will not feature the talents of Deadshot actor Will Smith.

According to Variety Will Smith is out of The Suicide Squad, and whether this means recasting the character or replacing Deadshot with another character remains to be seen. I am in no great dilemma about this as I didn’t feel Smith brought anything that interesting to the role of Floyd Laughton aka Deadshot.
According to the outlet’s sources the main reason for Smith leaving the franchise was a scheduling issue which couldn’t be resolved, and they also say the split was totally amicable between star and studio. It is thought WB were keen to have both Smith and Robbie return for this movie, probably to give it a little star power, but alas this will no longer be the case. Smith and his representatives were unavailable for comment when approached by Variety for confirmation.
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6 2021, and it remains to be seen how they will adapt their ideas now that Smith is out.
