Can The Flash have more than two Batman in it?

What’s the DC Universe without a little bit of multiverse goodness? It’s been a direction they clearly capitalized on with the recent Arrowverse crossover. For better or worse, the entirety of their universe has effectively smashed together, and every iteration of every superhero makes up one piece of the infinite multiverse. This has opened up plenty of opportunities for the movies to take full advantage of this down the line. And that’s exactly what they’re doing.

As we’ve known for some time, the standalone Flash movie is set to bring about a Flashpoint narrative. This will undoubtedly bring other timelines into the fold. We already know that Michael Keaton is popping up as an old-school Batman, and yesterday, it was confirmed that Ben Affleck was also returning as the Caped Crusader.

But will they be the only ones returning to the cowl? Okay, I’ll admit this is a stretch, but there was a line in the Vanity Fair announcement article that caught my eye.

“Affleck won’t be the only Batman making a comeback,” the piece wrote. “A few more of the alternate-dimension heroes who turn up in the Flash movie will be figures we’ve seen before. Michael Keaton’s Batman from the 1989 Tim Burton film is also set to appear in what Muschietti said was a ‘substantial’ part.”

So, on one level, it does almost sound like we could be getting more than two Batmen. On the other hand, the piece could just be talking about alternative versions of characters like Wonder Woman or Aquaman. But the one I have my eye on is Thomas Wayne. Fans of the comic will know that Thomas Wayne dons the cowl in an alternate universe where Bruce Wayne is killed in the alley. 

Again, it’s a bit of a stretch, but it doesn’t take much thinking to start crafting together potential stories based on the report. What do you think of the possibility of Thomas Wayne or even other Batmen?
