With Kids At Home J.K. Rowling Grants Teachers Access To Harry Potter Series

the latest news is that HBO to reboot Harry Potter as a TV series!

One of the first groups to get sent home thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic were the students of all ages. Being that I have a nine year old and my girlfriend is a teacher I have seen first hand the amount of work that has been put into trying to get school work and lesson plans to kids. One of the essential subjects that kids learn in school is reading. For this reason the author of the Harry Potter series J.K. Rowling is doing her part in helping teachers out.

Via a press release from her website, it was announced that teachers will now be able to post videos of themselves reading aloud from the Harry Potter books. Rowling and her agents The Blair Partnership are temporarily relaxing the usual copyright permissions required.

Teachers around the globe will be allowed to post videos of themselves reading any of the seven Harry Potter books onto their school’s networks or closed educational platforms. However they are not permitted to post any of these on YouTube or social media platforms. These videos will be allowed to be posted until the end of the school year or end of July, whichever comes first. At that point all videos must be deleted from the sites. A full list of Guidelines for Teachers can be found here.

According to the information, this is one of several initiatives that they are planning to try and bring Harry Potter to more children at home. They have several announcements planned for the near future.

I think that the Harry Potter series are great for kids to read. With how much of a stranglehold Rowling usually has on her books this was kind of a surprise. But desperate times call for desperate measures. I am interested to see what these other initiatives are as I believe my daughter would quite enjoy them.
