Woody Harrelson Says He Is Barely In Venom, But Will Be Back For The Sequel

Woody Harrelson has been around for a long time, in too many good films to count, but he just rocketed into a new atmosphere this past weekend with Solo: A Star Wars Story. Yes, Solo under-performed (despite being the best Star Wars film since Return of the Jedi), but that makes Star Wars still the second most popular franchise in the world aside from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then again, Marvel overall is doing well in 2018, with Marvel/20th Century Fox’s Deadpool 2 set to have the third highest gross of a film so far this year, behind Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, that is.

Depending on the marketing needed to undo the damage done by Spider-Man 3 — or Sony’s treatment of the Spider-Man license in general —Venom could be shaping up to be another Marvel hit in the making this October. Woody Harrelson is on that rocket as well.

Harrelson told Collider that he is barely in Venom, but that he will return for the sequel:

“I’m in a little fraction of this movie, but I’ll be in the next one, you know?”

When Harrelson was asked if he could tell us who he was playing, or if it was under wraps, Harrelson admitted he thought it was under wraps he was in the movie at all, so he better keep his mouth shut.

Rumor has Harrelson playing Carnage, though I wouldn’t be surprised if Riz Ahmed’s Dr. Cartlon Drake turns out to be Sony’s version of Carnage. With this new info, it sounds like Harrelson could still be playing Carnage, as who casts a star that big in one movie not to have it pay off later in a bigger role? Maybe Harrelson is just Cletus Cassidy in Vemom and they’ll tease Carnage at the end?

… And then never earn enough to make a sequel. Just like all those “great” set-ups Amazing Spider-Man 2 left loose, never be be tied after the collapse of the franchise.

Cause, thaaaaaat’s Sony!

Do you wish Harrelson was getting more screen time in Venom? Or are you okay with Sony risking it all again, with a chance of no pay-off for Woody? Let us know in the comment section below!
