According to the latest Barside Buzz, the rumored World War Hulk movie is still being discussed at Marvel, however don’t expect it to be like the comic. That’s what Alex P of TCC is saying in his latest posts. Alex does have a good hit rate for MCU scoops.

The past is a murky one with this project. Rumors swirled years ago that the Hulk movie rights had been resolved. Therefore, a standalone Hulk movie was in development tentatively titled World War Hulk. However, this film has never been mentioned officially whereas most other projects up till the end of this Saga have. Then recently when asked about the rights situation with regards to a Hulk movie, Mark Ruffalo said he was told not to discuss it. I assume for legal reasons rather than secretive. However, he was keen to get to do that some day.

Here is what Alex had to sat in the post linked above.

“Hi! I’m good. Just very unmotivated to report on anything as of late. As for Hulk, well, there’s What If…? and I know there are talks about the World War Hulk movie and the like. All I have to say is, IF, such a project exists, don’t expect it to be a carbon copy of the comic.”

“What I can say is such a project will get the Captain America: Civil War treatment of the Civil War comic storyline. And you can take that as you like.”

This one may be tricky to understand. I think what Alex is saying is this: That World War Hulk will just use the name rather than the comic like Captain America: Civil War did. In other words there may be some connections, but it is its own story. That at least is what makes most sense to me. Especially when we’ve just heard today that Spider-Man 4 may be like a street level Civil War. Which to be fair makes more sense that a Hulk movie being a Civil War event.

Then Alex says he’s heard the repercussions of the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World will set up the events of World War Hulk.

Remember that Brave New World is conformed to feature several Hulk characters. Hence why some folks assumed Bruce may also show up. We have President Ross, his daughter Betty and Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader.

My bet is that Ross Hulk’s out but gets killed, Leader goes off to experiment with Gamma Creatures and Bruce reconnects with Betty with leader being the main villain of World War Hulk. I’ve said this before, here it is again. Go watch an episode of the old animated series Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes called ‘Gamma World’. That is similar to what I’d love to see in World War Hulk. But who knows what is ultimately being planned?
