Today we are sharing reports of a Wheel of Time Season 3 recast and some returning roles from Season 1. The information comes just after Season 2 has finished. We know Season 3 has been filming for some time, but took a break recently. The break was probably intended to coincide with marketing for Season 2. However, the SAG-AFTRA strike put paid to that.
Now WOTSeries reports that the role of Marin al’Vere (Egwene’s mum) has been recast for Season 3. Marin didn’t appear at all in Season 2. However, we know the Two Rivers sets have been rebuilt for Season 3. Book fans will be aware that important events take place in the Two Rivers in book 4, The Shadow Rising. It’s this fourth book which will be the main influence in Season 3 of the show.
‘The Wheel of Time has recast the role of Marin al’Vere, who was portrayed by Lolita Chakrabarti in season 1. Taking over the role is Rina Mahoney, a screen and stage actor who has appeared in television shows such as Happy Valley, Wednesday, The Bay, Doctors, and Hollyoaks.’
‘Chakrabarti did not return to the show “due to a clash of timings of her projects in the West End and on Broadway as a playwright, sadly she was unable to continue her role as Marin al’Vere in Wheel of Time“, the actor’s publicist told WotSeries in a statement.’
These recasts of minor roles will happen in a series spanning many years. Marin is certainly not a character I’d expect to get a huge amount of screen time in S3.

In addition the outlet reports that three actors will be reprising their Season 1 roles.
Additionally, we can report on three actors who appear to be returning for season 3: Maria Doyle Kennedy as Ila, Narinder Samra as Raen, and Daryl McCormack as Aram.
If you need a reminder these characters were in the Tuatha’an scenes with Egwene and Perrin from the first Season. It seems likely Perrin will come across the Tuatha’an in Season 3 as he did in the fourth book.
Whilst not conformed my guess is that we will see a few other returning actors from Season 1. Chief among these will be Michael McElhatton who played Tam al’Thor (Rand’s non-biological father). However, I would also expect to see Egwene’s father and perhaps even Matt’s parents. In fact Matt’s mother was the only Two Rivers actor to make it to Season 2. The character showed up for that bad trip Matt took on Ishy’s drugs. We can probably expect the Two Rivers story in Season 3 to be pretty close to how it plays out in book 4.
