This year saw Hugh Jackman hang up his claws for what is presumably the final time in the hard-R film, Logan. It was a retirement that was a long time coming, but even to this day, some fans are hopeful that Jackman will one day return to play the character once again.
During the press run for Logan, Jackman had left open one potential door. Should the X-Men somehow get incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it may very well be enough to bring him back. In recent weeks, there’s been rumblings of Disney buying out most of 21st Century Fox, and with it the rights to make X-Men films.

With this in mind, would Jackman actually be willing to return? Here’s what the actor had to say to Collider while promoting his latest film, The Greatest Showman:
“It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, ‘Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,’ and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, ‘Hang on!’ But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there.”
I think he has a point here. As they did with Spider-Man before him, there’s a good chance that Marvel Studios would prefer to start from scratch with their own interpretations. It would certainly make for a timeline that made a whole lot more sense, and would allow us not to wonder what in the hell the mutants had been up to over the past several decades.
Would you like to see Jackman return as Wolverine, or should Marvel Studios just recast if they end up with the rights? Or should they leave the X-Men alone altogether? Let us know your thoughts down below!
