Derek Kolstadt teases return of early MCU characters in Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Kolstadt (writer) recently appeared on Script Apart Podcast and teased that some early MCU character might be returning in the Falcon and The Winter Soldier Disney+ show. By all rights, we really should already be watching Falcon and The Winter Soldier. However, we know the production of the MCU show was delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“What I will say is that there are characters from the earliest Marvel movies that are coming back,” Kolstad teased. “We’re layering them in and reinventing them in a way that’s gonna shift the storytelling structure. It’s f***ing awesome.”
We know that Batroc the Leaper and Zemo are in the show, but that does not appear to be what Kolstadt is teasing here? Could we be looking at surprise appearances for the likes of Abomination, or Justin Hammer? Pure guess work from me, and there is nothing to point towards this, I’m simply speculating.

Kolstadt also went on to talk a little about his love for sidekicks. Until now, it would be fair to say that both Bucky and Sam were firmly sidekicks of Captain America, but no more. Falcon and The Winter Soldier is about Bucky and Sam, and one presumes Sam’s journey into becoming the new Captain America.
“Here’s what I’ll say: growing up, everyone would give someone like Robin shit. But Robin’s pretty bad-ass, and became pretty bad-ass in the comics. [We’re] taking secondary characters and putting them in the primary roles, and [as a result] they’re cooler. They’re more interesting. There’s more humanity, more longing, more suffering, and coming to grips with who and what they are.”
Intriguing for sure. It’ll be interesting to see how Bucky and Sam feel as characters when the focus is squarely on them both? What do you think of Kolstadt teasing return of early MCU characters in Falcon and The Winter Soldier? Leave your thoughts on who they could be below.
