One of the most acclaimed horror comics of the last decade is getting a definitive new release just in time for its jump to television.
Image Comics has announced Wytches, Vol. 1: Pledged Edition, an expanded and remastered collection of Scott Snyder and Jock’s acclaimed supernatural horror series. The new trade paperback arrives this fall with additional content, updated coloring, and a comprehensive collection of stories designed to serve as the ultimate edition of the fan-favorite series before its upcoming adaptation from Amazon/MGM Studios.
Originally released in 2014, Wytches quickly established itself as one of Image Comics’ biggest successes. Written by Absolute Batman creator Scott Snyder and illustrated by acclaimed artist Jock, the series earned widespread praise for its unsettling atmosphere, emotionally grounded storytelling, and haunting visual style. It became one of the publisher’s top-selling books of the year, earning multiple printings and developing a devoted following among horror fans.
The new Pledged Edition expands on the original release by collecting the complete six-issue opening storyline alongside the Wytches: Bad Egg Halloween Special, bonus material from Image! anthology #7, and newly remastered pages featuring updated colors by longtime collaborator Matt Hollingsworth.
The recoloring isn’t simply a cosmetic upgrade. According to Image Comics, much of the book has been revised to match the visual palette of the forthcoming animated television adaptation, making this collection the closest representation yet of Snyder and Jock’s original creative vision.

“Wytches was a deeply personal book, born out of the real fears I had as an anxious parent,” Snyder said in the announcement. “It’s one of my favorite projects, and creating it with Jock made it all the better.”
He added that the expanded edition finally brings together every major story created for the series while introducing updated coloring that makes it “the definitive version” of the comic.
Jock echoed that excitement, noting that the new collection allows readers to experience both the original storyline and several harder-to-find companion stories in a single volume as the franchise enters what he described as “a new, exciting era.”
At its core, Wytches offers a chilling twist on traditional folklore. Rather than focusing on human practitioners of magic, the story imagines that the historical witch trials concealed an even darker truth: the real witches were never human at all.
The series follows the Rooks family after they relocate to the isolated town of Litchfield in search of a fresh start following a family tragedy. Instead of finding peace, they discover an ancient evil lurking within the surrounding woods, one tied to horrifying creatures that have existed for centuries and whose hunger has never faded.
Blending psychological horror with supernatural mythology and deeply emotional family drama, Wytches distinguished itself from many modern horror comics by grounding its terrifying premise in relatable fears surrounding parenthood, grief, and protection.
The announcement also arrives as anticipation builds for Amazon/MGM Studios’ animated adaptation, which is expected to introduce Snyder and Jock’s unsettling world to an even broader audience. While details about the series remain limited, the release of the Pledged Edition gives new readers an ideal opportunity to experience the source material before the adaptation premieres.
Wytches, Vol. 1: Pledged Edition will arrive first at local comic book shops on October 21, followed by a wider bookstore release on November 17. In addition to the new print edition, the series remains available digitally through a variety of major comic and ebook platforms.
For longtime fans, the new collection promises the most complete version of Wytches ever assembled. For newcomers drawn in by the upcoming television adaptation, it offers the perfect introduction to one of the defining horror comics of the modern era.
