According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse may center on two characters you wouldn’t necessarily expect. The outlet’s sources are claiming that the film will look to take full advantage of the star power of Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender, by crafting a story built around Mystique and Magneto.
The franchise pulled off quite a coup when it cast Lawrence and Fassbender in 2011’s X-Men: First Class, before they became household names. While the two stars were part of the stacked ensemble cast of that film’s follow-up, X-Men: Days of Future Past, it looks like the filmmakers want to move them front and center for Apocalypse. Also of note, THR says that the film will be exploring the romance angle between their characters, continuing the evolution of their relationship.
This bit of news comes amidst a report on Lawrence’s next moves, with the in-demand actress juggling a couple of offers but needing to be free by April of 2015 for X-Men: Apocalypse. You may recall that a release date of May 27, 2016 was announced long before DoFP had even arrived in theaters, so her commitment to that project leaves very little wiggle room for anything else.
