Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Has Subtle Jab At Underpowered PS5

Underpowered PS5

Xbox boss Phil Spencer takes a subtle poke at the underpowered PS5 in his latest interview about the Xbox Series X.

This Holiday season will see the release of the next console generation. It is expected that both Xbox Series X and the PS5 will release around the same time. As of yet, we don’t know what the price point will be, but the current buzz is around the power of the SeX compared to the PS5.

The one advantage the PS5 seems to have over the Xbox SeX is the smaller but faster SSD drive. However, when it comes to raw power, there is no denying that the Xbox is the most powerful of the next-gen consoles. This is something Xbox boss Phil Spencer didn’t fail to mention when he spoke with IGN recently. Spencer obviously was promoting the Xbox Series X, but he had time to mention how happy he was at the PS5 specs.

“I felt really good about how [Xbox] Series X lines up… When I saw the public disclosure (of the specs on PS5), I felt even better on the choices we made on our platform. I had a lot of confidence in our hardware team. The work that Jason Ronald and the team has done is just fantastic.”

The one area though that Sony has been far ahead of Xbox on, is the amount of first-party exclusive games. Spencer seems to understand this is an area where Xbox was lagging in the previous-gen when he says.

“Our next-gen hardware tech makes games better, but ultimately the games are what will make people excited. That was one of the reasons why we revealed XSX with Hellblade II at TGA. The vast majority of our talks going forward will be about great games the people will play.”

As Spencer said, the converasation going forward is going to be about the games. XBox has won the hardware battle, the next front for this war will be quality exclusive games. One of the issues facing Xbox is the fact that their exclusive games can also be played on PC. Therefore, for the PC gamer, looking to get PS5 exclusives, there is only one choice. I’m not sure how Xbox can do much about that right now though? I still expect the Sony PS5 to outsell the Xbox as it seems unlikely to suddenly shift this generation, but who knows?

What do you think of Spencer’s comments? Was this a subtle poke at the underpowered PS5, or just Spencer being honest with his relief? Let us know what you think below, and which console you will be picking up and why?
