Xbox Boss Wants Halo Show To Be As Good As The Last Of Us – LOL

Xbox boss Phil Spencer says he wants the Halo show to be as good as The Last of Us

In a recent interview, Xbox boss Phil Spencer says he wants the Halo show to be as good as The Last of Us. Frankly, as per the title, I actually did laugh out loud when I read that quote. I’ll get to my strong opinions in a second. However for now let’s take a look at what Spencer said when he spoke to IGN recently and was asked about the reception of The Last of Us.

Phil Spencer

Spencer first was all praise for the show. Here is what Spencer said about congratulating the team on their success.

“The fact that you take one of the greatest creators from our industry and you can have success in creating in another medium, I just think it shows that in the games industry, you have some amazing storytellers, amazing creators across all third-party, first-party. I think it’s just a great moment to see the success that they’re having with the franchise, and congrats to all of them.”

However then Spencer was asked if he has hopes that Halo Season 2 can get to this level?

“I want the best for everything that we work on, Halo television series included. I think there’s some differences there, but I don’t think that the point of the question of, “Hey, Last of Us is out there, setting an incredibly high bar. Should we all aspire to reach that same bar with the work that we do in television?”

“Absolutely. I could say the same thing in video games. Every time I play a great game from somebody, it inspires us to do the best work that we can, to hope that next time we show up, we’re showing up with our best creative, our best ideas, and finding people who either love watching, in the case of the Halo television show, or playing, in the case of things like Hi-Fi Rush and the games that are coming out this year. We’re always getting inspired by the work around us, absolutely.”

Strong Opinions

There’s only 1 way to do that Phil and that’s to cancel the show, sack everyone who worked on it and reboot it to be in canon with the games instead of some weird elseworlds garbage. Halo was a poster boy for bad video game adaptations. It looks cheap as hell for a start for a live-action Halo. However the strange story choices and how alien they are from the video games and books storylines are staggering.

All they had to do was make the existing novel The Fall of Reach into a Season 1, that’s it. Like The Witcher series, we know there are writers on Halo who never touched the games and didn’t think they had a good story. It’s a really bad idea to annoy an entire fanbase unless you’re confident you’ll get a new one. Instead both The Witcher and Halo have so far alienated their fanbase. What both will find is that when the novelty wears off the for the casuals, they won’t have the core fanbase to keep going. IMO Halo never gets past Season 2 (if it even films) and The Witcher won’t make it to Season 4 after recent reception of Blood Origin. at least not without a big crew change.

Listen I’m a fan of the Halo story, it’s a really good story and I enjoyed many of the books. Tell that story, because whatever I watched in the first few episodes of Halo the TV series was not Halo and I couldn’t keep going it was so bad. So good luck fixing it for Season 2 and getting that kind of critical reception Phil, good luck indeed. Scrap the TV series and reboot it as a movie franchise Phil. If you want a pitch gimme a shout.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer says he wants the Halo show to be as good as The Last of Us. Do you agree with me that a full reboot back to script is the only way that could happen now? Thoughts below as always.
