One of the most exciting modern westerns in television right now is with Yellowstone.
Earlier this week, ViacomCBS and MTV Entertainment Group announced the extension of their relationship with Taylor Sheridan, co-creator of Yellowstone, for a multi-year pact.
Sheridan’s new contract will include five cycles per year of scripted and procedural series. The content is exclusive to ViacomCBS, but not limited to Paramount Network, Paramount+, CBS, and other VCBS brands.
Currently, Yellowstone draws in record-breaking numbers of 6.5 million total viewers for season three. And it has a rabid fan base.
With that success, the studios announced a special sneak peek at Sheridan’s new series for Paramount+ titled Y:1883 during the Super Bowl tomorrow.
Serving as a prequel to Yellowstone, Y:1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains through the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land—Montana.
“Taylor Sheridan is a visionary creative whose work has reinvented genres and amassed fan bases around the globe,” said Chris McCarthy, president of MTV Entertainment, in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited to build upon our partnership with him, expand the Yellowstone universe and showcase Taylor’s boundless talent across all of our brands and platforms.”

Y: 1883 plans for streaming on Paramount+ later this year. The news comes before the launch of the new streaming network that includes CBS, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon, and the Smithsonian Channel.
No doubt Y:1883 sets to be one of the anchor shows for the streaming network.
