Yoda Spotted In Star Wars: The High Republic Concept Art?

Count me…mildly concerned. First off, I think I have to express my excitement over the Star Wars: The High Republic publishing initiative going over over at Lucasfilm. For the first time since we got that first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I was actively excited for an upcoming phase of Star Wars stories. And for the first time ever, I was excited for a Star Wars non-movie story. Sure, I’d indulged in well over a handful expanded universe stories back in the ‘90s, but not much since after middle school. This trailer changed that.

But, it doesn’t come without its concerns. For starters, in the yesterday’s episode of LRMornings, Kyle Malone expressed his concerns over the timeline. He wants the stories to take place 1,000 years before the prequels. The reason? He wants to avoid run-ins with a young Yoda. I thought his concerns were unfounded, but after poring over the trailer, I noticed a couple of interesting pieces of concept art.

The first images were pinned to a board, and they show what looks like younger Baby Yoda-type characters. One on the left looks like it can be a younger actual Yoda and the ones on the left look like a mix of male and female “teen”-like Yodas. I keep saying Yoda, but I hope it’s clear that in the case of the photos on the right, I just mean characters that are the same race as him.

And then there is this photo.

Straight-up, this looks like actual Yoda through and through. And it’s not completely crazy to think we may see a 700-year-old Yoda. At this age, he’ll likely still be kicking it and may even be on the council.

Of course, all of this is just concept art. At my most optimistic, I think we could be seeing more characters that are the same species as Yoda. At my most pessimistic, we’ll be getting an obligatory check-in with Yoda in various stories. It’s not the worse thing in the world, but it does make me wish it was set back 1,000 years so that we can avoid obvious ties to stuff we already know.

But what do you think of this concept art? Are you excited to see more Yoda-like characters? Let us know your thoughts down below!
